CV

The Last Suppe is a late 15th-century mural painting by Leonardo da Vinci in the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan. It is one of the world’s most famous paintings.

The work is presumed to have been commenced around 1495–1496 and was commissioned as part of a plan of renovations to the church and its convent buildings by Leonardo’s patron Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan. The painting represents the scene of The Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples, as it is told in the Gospel of John, 13:21. Leonardo has depicted the consternation that occurred among the Twelve Disciples when Jesus announced that one of them would betray him.

Due to the methods used, and a variety of environmental factors, as well as intentional damage, very little of the original painting remains today, despite numerous restoration attempts, the last being completed in 1999.

owl

I found this owl’s Gif on the Internet and drawn my owl in the film. So in my film the owl can turn its head for 360 angle degree. By the way, this owl is really terrible. For me, i do not like one live can turn it head like this. If cat, dog or human can do this, that must in the horrible films.

Konstantin Bronzit

For me, his name is not easy to write from memory. I apologized about this. Of course, this is not his problem, it’s mine. Because i born to be Chinese and i am not hard working on the English. The name which longer than 7 letters will be hard for me to remember. Come back to this man. He is really amazing on the animation. If you do not know his name, you must have watched his works. The left photo is him, and this comes from the Wikipedia. He is a famous animator and animation film director in Russia. On the  Wikipedia, I found his works be nominated twice for Oscars. And he works at Melnitsa Animation Studio now.

Next part, i will put some of his works, and write some feelings and what i learn from these works.

This was not his first film, but i think this was his beginning of fame. At the Ends of the Earth helped him win almost 70 awards. This short film talks about one family, they live on a mountain peak. Their house stay on the peak.

So this environment setting makes a comedy conflict ——— the house is unbalanced. If much more weight on the left, the house will tend to left, much more weight on the right, the house will tend to right. And this unbalance makes their lives be interesting.

I think, try to make a conflict will make your plot be more interesting. I wrote on the before research (the short film about own a dragon): ‘If i have … i will…’ The way of thinking like this can give a good idea for our scripts. Make a conflict and try to solve this will have a positive feeling and give the end have a new thinking room for the audience. Maybe the ending is not good, or maybe it is good. Just like this short film’s ending.

The next short film i have watched for many times. I really like this kind of story. It has a same feeling of Jimmy’s painting book which maybe named Walk to left, Walk to right. Because i only know his Chinese name, and i don’t find it’s English name on the Google. His Chinese name is 向左走，向右走. This painting book talks a story about one man and one woman, they live in the same building, the same floor. They only have one wall between them, but they never meet each other. Because one building has two part Building A and Building B,  one go outside from A gate and one get outside from B gate. They always miss, one always go left, one always go right. One day, they go to a park which has a round fountain, they meet and fall in love. But it rainy, so they leave their telephone number on the paper. They appoint to contact each other. But when they come home, they find the rain make the number be unclear. They can’t find each other even they do do many trying. They always miss. The same day, they have to leave this building. Because of the earthquake, the wall between them fall down, they see each other again. Really beautiful love story.

This short film which named Lavatory Love story, just like its name, it happens in the lavatory. One man who works in the male’s lavatory falls in love with one woman works in the female’s lavatory. The woman want to have lover, one day she found someone gave her flowers everyday. She is happy but she want to know who is that people. Finally she find him. And they love each other. They also only have one wall between them. The love story like this gives people a hope: my lover is not far away from me, when we find each other, we will love each other. Sometimes i do not feel better after watching this warm love story. I feel a little bit sad, because i am a single and i am afraid i will be single for all my life or even worst, i find someone i do not love to spend time.

This story only gives colors on the flowers which the man sent to the woman. This gives the audience feel these flowers is different from the normal life and the woman really feel different with his life because of these flowers. Sometimes simple style or color will give a different and successful outcome.

We Can’t Live Without Cosmos is a touching short film about two man who has the same dream—–fly to the Cosmos and they work hard together , practice together, compete together.  They are roommate, they look like brothers. Maybe they are truly brothers. 

I really like the part they  jump on the spring bed and dream of flying into the outer space. A really interesting detail in their normal lives. I like their interactions plots. They all be the best in the trainers of astronauts. But this outer space only need one person. So one of them go to the outer space and another one choose to be happy with him. But the person die in this travel because of the accident. And another who stay on the earth choose to stay in the astronauts’ suit to wait for his friend. In the end,  he jump on the spring bed, and find his friend in the outer space and grasp his hands.

This story talks about the  lifelong friends.

If we want to make our animation better, we should try to learn pay the way of emotions (sadness, pleasure,fear and son on ). Accumulating emotions is accumulating the details which happens every day. This is long way for me.

My action plan

Since there is a homework need to be done, I have to say the ideas to the future honestly. I always think words have power, i know what i am writing now maybe is quite different with my future life. But this can be viewed to be my blessings to myself. Actually, i am afraid of my future things, things in the future can rarely happen as you want. If it happens, that is really lucky.

First part. What do i want to do:

 

Now —— I am making a 3 minutes 2D film by TVP Animation. The story is about a little boy and his story. The little boy always has a fantasy that he has magic. One day, his grandfather gave him a stone in the psychiatric hospital and told him this stone is a magic stone. Friends around him laughed at him because of this. The little boy still insist on himself and finally, he went into the magic world. The most difficult for me is have indomitable will to accomplish the film. Other problems are not problems. I hope i can finish this short film perfectly.

 

Past —— Actually, i learned many things before going into the university, such as sketching, color. You have to pass the drawing exams, if you want to study art major. During the university, i learned (PS, AI, MAYA, 3DMAX，AE) these software’s basic operation flows. PR, SAI, TVP are leaned by myself. I took stop motion animation, live action short. I took part in the production process of smart phone’s app. I also learned how to act and performed in the school’s party.

 

Future —— To the future, the current plan is continue to study in the digital media field. I want to get graduate degree. I hope i can get opportunities to practice during my graduate, because i didn’t work in this field, i am panic. I hope i can find the man who we love each other, because i hope my life can have love and business. I hope i can work on my major, go into advertisement, game, film studios or companies. I can draw comics, write novels during spare time. I hope i can be a free creator after resignation when her thirty five years old. Of course, these are my best wishes.

Second part. What do i need to find out:

1. Edinburgh College of Art ( school of design —– Animation MFA)

The main reason i choose this school, because this school has a famous fame in China and the price in this city is not expensive. And it is said this school’s master is difficult to get. I think i am a masochism, this difficult condition can make me work hard. Because i am an international student in UK, maybe the next graduate time is my final year in this country, so i want to change the school, like a tourist, to know more about this country. It is said Edinburgh is a beautiful city. If i get this school’s offer, my parents will be happy.

Actually, this school is not famous in China. Why i choose to apply this school, because it requires 2.1 undergraduate honours degree or above in a relevant subject. I think my classmates will have much more ability than me. The most important is it doesn’t need IELTS in its offer and the price of the place is Ok. And i am interested in the module of Theory and Practice of Interactive Media.

This is a China-based video sharing website, where users can submit, view, and add commentary subtitles on videos. I often see the homemade videos on this website, and see the commentary subtitles on videos. I have been watching the development of this website since four years ago. So i have deep emotions on these website. But i have watched their requirements of staff, i think i have long distance to get their job.

2. Bao Zou Big News Events

This is a Chinese Internet talk-variety show program produced by Baozou. The Host wears a headgear with a comic face during the show, and uses humorous words to report ridiculous news events. The show became popular among Chinese Internet users, and has a young audience. First day, i began to watch this video when i were in the high school. So i also have deep emotion on this program. I want to work in these people. I don’t know much about the games flow, but i really want to take part in them.

2. Rusty lake

Rusty Lake is an indie game studio, based in Amsterdam. Since spring 2015 they develop surrealistic adventure games that take place in the Rusty Lake universe. The studio consists of two people: Robin and Maarten.  I really like their games. The game’s world is really interesting. This is my favorite game series currently.

2. Amanita Design

When i were young, i played Machinarium. I really like this games. Because of this game, i begin to like playing puzzle games. And the style of this game is really beautiful. Because of this, i begin to know this Amanita Design. Amanita Design is a small, independent game development studio based in the Czech Republic. There are 9 members in this studio now. I find they like weird style, i think i can work with them.

Third part. The next works i want to do

I often talk with my friends Cecilia (C) and Amber (A) on the Internet. We often talk about some interesting things. I pick and collect the most interesting three paragraphs of our chatting and i am going to make these chatting to be short films. Maybe only use one paragraph, if i can do better, i want to make a series. I am busy with my graduation work now. Because the time is limited, i draw some simple drafts. Although they are not exquisite, but i hope people can like them. Maybe this summer i will try to draw their comics and emotion bags.

Forth part. How do i get there:

First, get the graduate degree smoothly. During the study, i hope i can master as many as possible software expertly and improve work efficiency. I want to learn about this field operation flows during practicing into big companies. I think the fresh graduates will not be put in an important position. So i want to learn much more things during this period. After that, i will go into the small studios to work hardly and try to get a raise or a promotion.

Research of poster

I searched some posters which i think is best than i , i put them on my blog, not because i will make the poster just like one of them, but because their ideas can give me inspirations. I think poster is really important to the works. Sometimes the poster can indicate the works’ important messages and appeal to much more people’s attention. After watching so many beautiful and amazing posters, i think the most important things for the poster is do not follow the rulers. Follow your hearts, you think what is better taht is better. I know this words look like rubbish, but that is most important things for us. You can teach a man how to draw, but you also should teach a drawer how to forget drawing.

 

watch TVP course videos again

I have used Tvp animation for more than one month, I think it is a good time for me to watch a course videos of Tvp again. Because i do not know how to say, when someone taught you something, you can only remember a part of it. When you are doing by yourself, you can remember a new part of it. And you come back to listen to the teacher’s words before, you will cared about new things which you ignored before.

So i watched this person’s course videos about TVP for one day. And i learned much more which i ignored before. But after another month, i will watch course videos again, i still have many many many many many… things to learn.

Eassy part 4

Hayao Miyazaki

I can say almost all the young people watched Hayao Miyazaki’s films in China and love this animator. And the animation peripheral of Totoro is popular in China. Even now, many people try to learn how to draw his drawing style of scenes.

Hayao was born in 1941. His parents has 4 children, he is the second son. After the second war, they left their hometown and moved to a new place to live. Because his father has a plane industry, so his childhood do not need to bear hunger and poverty after the war. Because of this life background, Hayao Miyazaki is against to war, love peace and have interests on plane. People can find these two elements in some of his animation. Hayao Miyazaki is not good at sports, he draw pictures for pleasure. In 1958, he was still the third year student in the high school. He watched the first color animation film which named The White Snake and began to be interested in animation films.Because he is not the first son of his family, he don’t need to in charge of his father’s industry and he can choose other job he likes. In the university, he studied political economy and began to draw comic. He tried to contribute to press, but be refused. 1964 he touched by soviet animation film which named Snow Queen and decided to choose animator to be his lifetime career. Before he and his friends founding Ghibli, he had worked in many studios and companies. But these studios and companies didn’t accept his ideas of new animation creation. So the Ghibli is Hayao Miyazaki’s real begin of his works. As people all known, he and his friends created Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (manga) (1983), Castle in the sky (1986), My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Porco Rosso (1992), Whisper of the Heart(1992).

Since 1995, Hayao Miyazaki wanted to retire then because some reasons he came back and made Princess Mononoke (1997), it got a big success. He wanted to retire again, but his successor Yoshifumi Kondō died and some other reasons, he had to come back. Retired, came back, retired, came back… again and again.During this period he made many famous animation, such as Spirited Away, Howls’ moving castle and so on.There are many news about he and his son, their relationship is subtle. Now he began to try CG animation. He is old now, try this new technology is really admiring.

Hayao Miyazaki give me influence not only on the pictures of animation, but also the will of repeat changing the works and trying to make the animation look better. He is stubborn, but i think every animator should have this stubborn spirit. When i was drawing the short film, most of time i wanted to give up, but i also insisted on drawing and finished it. It is said Hayao Miyazaki ‘s hand ever dislocated because he kept drawing and didn’t stop. Animation is not a relax work, if i want to keep doing this , i should have this spirit.

After knowing about those above talent, hardworking people, i find some of them originally did study the knowledge of what they are doing now in the university. They all have interests on what they are doing now. Some people they realized this when they are young, some people realize this when they are old. Sometimes people think insisting doing one thing is difficult, but i think giving up something and choosing a totally different filed and doing from the zero, that is more difficult. The most terrible things is that you don’t know what you want to do in the future. And i find we should try to try any different styles, technologies, plots and so on. Animation be finished is to show the audience. This is a times which information be replaced by pictures, and this times is still has a sharp development. To animator, this is a golden opportunity times and also a competitive times. Who can catch this chance, who can have a success. Many of them contributed their works to the festival or press, this is catching chance. Accumulating the things in the life every day is also important, most of the great works’s ideas have appeared since many years ago. Sometimes, you catch an idea and you do not have enough time or enough technology to finish. Keep it do not give up it. This is a good habit for animator. I have learned so much from them.

 

Eassy part 3

Junji Ito

Junji Ito is one of the top leading mangakas in the horror genre. His style of comic is characteristic and has a strong feeling of depression and oppression. It creates a real  imaginary world. He uses his works to look for darkness of human beings. When he was still a child in the kindergarten, he read a horror book named Mummy Teacher. He began to be interested in the horror comic books and at the same time his sister often give his little brother Junji Ito horror books to be birthday gifts. Then his sister began to learn to draw comic. Because of this, Junji Ito also began to learn to draw comic in the primary school. The sister of Junji Ito’s habits really have an important influence during his childhood.

For the original time, drawing comic is always be Junji Ito’s break time’s interest. He studied dental science and technology in his daily school time and be a dental technician. Because a accidental chance, the sonorama published a Halloween monthly and asked people to contribute comic. Junji Ito contribute his comic and won the first award (1986). This comic named Tomie which is his representative work. The next year, Anime began to be publish on this magazine and Junji Ito began to walik into the comic field (1987).

From 1987 to 1997, there are 10 years, Junji Ito have to draw comic and keep his job of the dental technician. It is too tired for him. Interest or job? Finally, he gave up his stable job and make the comic to be his main job.

After this career choice, Junji Ito began to draw many popular comic. Such as Lovesick Dead (also know as Love Ghost), Gyo and so on.

Junji Ito’s style of drawing and the plot of comic really has a big influence on me. I can’t remember when i watch his comic, because it had so many years ago. His horror comic is not like other horror books, he creates a different setting which based on the normal world. This different setting, maybe is one strange phenomenon or one strange person. I remember one story is about one cook. He accidentally find human’s oil is good than the animal and vegetable’s oil after he killing his wife. His cook business become better, but there will be no oil soon. His children find they become fatter and fatter, and begin to have many pimples on their faces. One night, they found father pulled oil into their mouth when they fall sleep. They ask father stop this, the father have to give up this crazy things and cut one of his leg. He cook it to be the oil. The children are scared about that. If you have read my TV series book which named Mr W, you will find i try to write the story like this style. A strange plot and horror ending.

The brothers Mcleod

The brothers Mcleod is a combination of two people who are close brothers. One named Greg Mcleod, who is a illustrator, animator and director. (right person of the photo) Another named Myles Mcleod, who is a writer, voice actor, director. (left person of the photo) They have created almost 60 works and won many different wards during their animation life . Most of them are brief stokes style. Because of the design of characters are clear, characteristic and unforgettable. Their works are popular for children and people who has much pressure. Most of their works are short and have interesting dialogues, they suits for the fast food culture on the internet now. I select two series which i like best to introduce. They made a series of short films named Quiff and Boot (2011) for BBC learning. It has 22 episodes and each episode lasts for 2 minutes. Brothers Mcleod wrote, designed, produced and directed this series. This aims to teach child Maths and help them be interested in Maths. This works help them won the winner of BAFTA Children’s Award for Primary Learning in 2011. They created an animation and live action named Art Sparks for Take Kids. They aim to help children to learn about art  knowledge and become interested in the art. This work won the Winner Webby Awards 2009 Youth Category. And many nominations in BAFTA and BETT. Their work is not only designs of animation and short films, but also have more important meanings for next young generation.

Miles Bullough

Miles Bullough originally studied in London School of Economics and Political Science. If his friends didn’t invite him to shoot cameras, maybe he will start another life not the famous producer. He began to touch new field and learn new knowledge after he deciding to change his career plan. He ever worked in Aardman Animations which is famous in the whole world. He is known for Shaun the Sheep (2007-2010), A Matter of Loaf and Death (2008). He is a producer of them.  Good works cultures good people and good people cultures good works. From 1996 to 2017, there are 21 years for him to accumulate experience and experiences. People can feel the improvement of his works. This gives him a solid foundation of producing films. At present, he is a managing director at Wildseed Studios. Last term, this studio showed a movie named The Darkness Dawn and had a good remarks by audience. This film only used minimal cost to finish and earn a big success. The movie begin with a new video recorder be opened and end with this camera be destroyed. And this camera record the whole story of the film. So this film only use one video to shoot. This need a strong skills of application of video, performance of actors and rationality of scrip. This is this studio’s first feature film. This studio is comprehensive, it gives many young people a chance to contribute their immature and interesting ideas and stories.

I am going to know about 4 speakers i have seen this year, and write about them at the first part. I want to focus on their works development and the connection between their lives. According to viewing their lives and works, i want to find what gives their power to insist on making animation. And the second part i am going to know about 2 people who i am interested in now. I want to focus on how they relate to my works. I hope i can learn much more after i searching their information on the Internet.

James Millingston

James Millingston is a talent young man. He studied Diploma in Art & Design in the knowsley community college r(2006-2007). After one year study, he chose to continue his art travel to make his skills and experience richer. After 3 years studying Bachelor of Arts in Animation, he got great grade and left University Of Central Lancashire(2010). People can find his graduation work on the YouTube. The work named ‘ Bluey & Louie’, It talks about two birds stay in one case, one want to escape the case but another one always stop him. The plot is really interesting and humorous. His writing was developed during his university break time. Luckily, he had chance to take part in the Disney team to discuss together for one year (2009). This experience gave him a chance to accumulate the business script design. After he graduated from UCLAN, he disappeared to the other side of the world for a while. He thins he is a bit of a traveler at heart. He can relax himself and don’t care about anything of future after graduating. Then he began to use his artistic talent and enthusiasm of youth to work between companies and customers. His skills of 2D Animation, 3D Animation and Motion Graphics be developed a lot. He is good at making vector animation and they are very interesting. To challenge himself, and expand his imagination, he made a challenge on the Instagram which named ’100 days of icons’.  He finished many design during this challenge. The designs of 26 letters and 0 to 9 are impressive. Each way of characters’ movement is not only characteristic and also has comfortable fluency. During the break time, he will draw some characters’ drafts to collect his ideas just like other designers. Because he is living in the UK, James Millingston has many complains. He created a short 11 seconds film to show the weather which is always rainy and can’t be forecast. This film named ‘British Summer’.

Pete Bishop

Pete Bishop (left man of the photo) is an experienced, talent and imaginative artist and director. People can find more than 80 works which he took part in or created on the Internet or television. Unexpectedly, during his school time, he didn’t study animation or any other thing about art. He studied law in the University of Bristol. But he accumulated rich writing experience and skills during this period. Now, He is having many different roles in different works and life experiences: lecturer, director, writer, producer, filmmaker designer and miscellaneous. He created many interesting films. The most popular is the series of how to destroy the world, this work selected for over 30 festivals. Not only this he won many different small and big wards during his life. With the development of technology and challenges of originality, he does not only focus on the plot creation and begin to try many different , new, creative way of making films. For example, he made a 54 seconds film which named PEGMAN headfuck titles SCI-FI Channel. This is the first try of this kind of stop motion film, Pete was also afraid of this work being normal or even failed. Finally, this new trying get award at HAFF 2004. Although he had worked in this field for many years, he always has a positive attitude of a new comer. Because of this attitude and the courage of trying, he created many different styles of films,  advertisements, TV series and so on. As a role of lecturer, he taught many students and at the same time this can also make him keep knowing about young power and ideas. He is popular between students.
